Isabella is the daughter of Jen and Serge, the people I am staying with while I search for a house. She had her first birthday a couple of weeks ago - huge party and her first time eating cake!
She was enthralled by the candle and shortly after this picture was taken she knocked over the cupcake and the candle hit a little girl beside her. Scared the girl but she wasn't hurt.
When Tobin turned 1, he was also fascinated by the candle. He smacked it right into the cake with his hand and put it out in the icing. He was kind of startled that is was warm (but it all happened so fast that he wasn't burned, of course), and I think also by the sharp intake of breath by all observers! But, after a long pause, he decided to laugh about it.
